Day 1 Guides

Activity Guide

Get Ready

Warm up with 20 Jumping Jacks + 20 High kicks

Get Set

Watch the exercise videos to learn proper form for the activities on the fitness test.  Walk in place while the videos play.

Fitness Test

Count and record how many of each activity is done in 1 minute.  For the plank, record how long you are able to hold it.  Use the Activity Trackers to keep a record and compare to how you do on the same activities on Day 8.

  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups
  • Squats
  • Jumping jacks
  • Burpees
  • Lunges
  • Hold a plank (seconds)

Inspire Courage

Watch the inspirational video (posted on the website or available on YouTube), then use the study guide to have a conversation.  If doing this program on your own, use a journal (paper or digital) to process the questions and thoughts.  If as a group, use the sections that are most meaningful to the group to fit in your timeframe.

Cardio Think

1 mile walk or run

After the workout and devotional study, take a walk or run.  It can be done at another time of day if needed.  This is a great opportunity to think about the devotional study and personal health goals.

DREAM – The Moment of Inspiration

*Bold text is supplemental material.

Reveal

Each member share with the group in about 30 seconds or less.

  • What is your health dream?
  • What would you do if you know you couldn’t fail?

Read

Have each person read one verse in a clockwise fashion.

John 5:1-9

Reflect

Discuss the following questions as a group:

  1. What was the man’s health dream?
  2. How long had he had this dream?
  3. How did he think it would be fulfilled?
  4. Did his way work?  Why or why not?
  5. Why did Jesus ask His question in verse 6?
  6. What did Jesus mean by the word “whole?”

Retell

  • Share a story about a time when you tried something to improve your health and the outcome was not what you expected.
  • Share a story about a time you motivated someone else to pursue their health dream.
  • Share a story about a moment when you lost your desire for something you had wanted for a long time.

React

Choose a symbol to remind you of this health dream and expose yourself to the symbol everyday.  This could be a vision board, a picture of someone who inspires you, a favorite Bible text, an inspirational song, an inspiring phrase, a place, etc.

  • What would you say if Jesus asked you the question in verse 6?  Why?
  • What would you do today if you knew you couldn’t fail?
  • With whom would you be most excited to share what you’ve learned today, and why?
  • Write a letter to yourself telling yourself about changes you can make today that will positively impact your life.
