2025-12-25T08:30:35-05:00

A Christmas Prayer for Recovery Our Loving Father, We thank You for the gift of Jesus—Emmanuel, God with us— who entered our broken world to bring healing, restoration, and hope. During this Christmas season, we lift up those walking the journey of recovery. You see the weight they carry, the memories they face, and the daily choices they make to walk in newness of life. Anchor their hearts firmly in Christ— our sure Foundation and steady Rock. When emotions rise and circumstances shift, keep them grounded in Your truth, secured by Your love, and held fast [...]

12 Steps at Christmas

2025-12-25T09:48:21-05:00

The Twelve Steps Adapted To the Christmas Story Adapted from the Journey to Wholeness The Christmas story is the story of an omnipotent God choosing to live among ordinary people. These people, like you and I, encountered Him in moments of uncertainty, weakness, and hope. Shepherds watched through the darkness of night. Mary said yes without knowing all the answers. Joseph chose faithfulness when the future felt unclear. Simeon and Anna waited for years, trusting God to keep His promises. All had past stories, doubts, and fears—but all were willing. In this special December reflection, the [...]

Journey to Wholeness at the South Bend Berean Transformation Center

2025-12-18T16:20:30-05:00

Journey to Wholeness at the South Bend Berean Transformation Center  By David Sedlacek, PhD, LCSW, CFLE Journey to Wholeness was birthed in 2010 when Adventist Recovery Ministries (ARMin) formally built on the foundation laid by SDA Regeneration and its founder, Hal Gates. It was shortly after this that David Sedlacek, a member of the ARMin board, petitioned his church, the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in South Bend, Indiana, to vote the approval of the formation of a Journey to Wholeness group at the church. Prior to the vote of the board, an Addiction Awareness Sabbath program was conducted to inform the members of the church about addiction, its [...]

A Grateful Heart: A Gift to Ourselves and to Others

2025-12-03T10:35:42-05:00

A Grateful Heart: A Gift to Ourselves and to Others  Gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you.” It is a posture of the heart — a daily choice to acknowledge God’s goodness and to notice the blessings that surround us, even in the midst of challenges. For Faith Community Nurses, cultivating gratitude can be both a powerful act of self-care and an essential part of health ministry. Here are some ideas on practicing both:  Gratitude as Self-Care for the Faith Community Nurse In the role of caregiving, it’s easy to pour out without pausing to be poured into. But research shows that practicing gratitude [...]

Faith, Health, and Hope: The Role of the Faith Community Nurse in Breast Cancer Awareness

2025-12-02T14:58:59-05:00

Faith, Health, and Hope: The Role of the Faith Community Nurse in Breast Cancer Awareness October marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- a time to reflect, educate, and empower women everywhere to take charge of their health. For those of us serving as Faith Community Nurses (FCNs), this month held special significance. It reminded us that our call lies at the intersection of health, faith, and compassion. The FCN serves not to replace the oncologist, but to walk alongside patients, offering support that integrates physical healing with spiritual encouragement.  Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women worldwide, with early detection being the key to survival. According [...]

Nurses Can Make an Unforgettable and Unexpected Impact During the Holiday Season

2025-12-02T14:53:06-05:00

Nurses Can Make an Unforgettable and Unexpected Impact During the Holiday Season  For many, the holiday season, perhaps commencing just before Thanksgiving right up until New Year’s, is not filled with favorite foods, shopping, visits to relatives and thinking about gifts and merriment. Holidays can be very difficult for some because of the twists and turns of life's journey. Being in a hospital, nursing or rehab facility or just home in bed brings a whole new set of woes.  So, when you see nurses, are you possibly seeing angels in disguise?   Trauma, stress, anxiety and fear over the unknown are present as hospitals are entered and patients are admitted. But nurses are there, not just filling out patient forms [...]

Gratefulness

2025-12-02T14:41:55-05:00

Gratefulness  In Exodus 5:21-22 Moses was asking God why He had brought trouble on His chosen people and had not delivered as He had promised. I recently experienced one of these ‘Moses times’--a tantrum--when we remind God what He already knows. Just as God responded to Moses and revealed the next course of action, He also deeply impressed me that what He desired of me was to be grateful and to praise Him.   How is that possible, Lord? When all I feel is a sense of emptiness.  He reminded me I could ask Him to remove the blindfold on my heart.  I did. Through Ezekiel 36: 26-27 and Phil 2: 13, I received the miracle of a praise-transformed heart that became my blessing and [...]
